Concert reward for E Cape fans

SOME of South Africa’s top musicians are performing at the much-anticipated MTN Sama Concert at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s Missionvale campus tomorrow.

The concert is a prelude to the 2013 MTN South African Music Awards, to be held at the Sun City Superbowl on May 11. It will feature last year’s Sama nominees.

The Missionvale concert is the result of a campaign, Bring it Home, launched last year. The aim was to get the public to vote for their choice of a venue for the concert. Apart from bringing the event to their venue of choice, entrants also stood a chance to win tickets to the concert.

MTN SA’s Ryan Gould said the Eastern Cape came out tops with 40000 votes.

He said 18 fans who voted in the competition had each won a VIP experience at the concert with five of their friends.

“As title sponsor of the MTN Sama Concert, we are pleased that the concert is finally coming to fruition,” Gould said.

“Based on the number of votes received for the competition, it is a testament that the Eastern Cape is passionate about music and fans are eager to see the artists performing live.”

Gould said this was a first for the Samas and MTN was excited about rewarding music fans for being passionate about, and supporting, South Africa’s music industry.

The lineup includes Character, Big Nuz, Zakwe, Kelly Khumalo, Zonke, DJ Cleo, DJ Clock and Ltido.

“For security reasons the following items will be prohibited from the venue: drugs, weapons, cooler bags, cameras and recording equipment,” Gould said.

Tickets – at R50 for seated and R70 for standing – can be bought at Computicket outlets, including Shoprite and Checkers, and at the venue.

The concert starts at 4pm and gates open at 2pm.
