FORMER Generations actress Tina Jaxa is joining the BEE breakfast show family on Umhlobo Wenene. Jaxa, who has appeared on the small screen for over 25 years, will join Putco Mafani, Pastor Nozewu and Mluleki “Coach” Ntsabo next month.
“Wow, I am happy about joining the Umhlobo Wenene family. Thanks to presenters Amaza [Ntshanga] and Nonala [Tose] for the nudge. I would like to embrace this moment and thank Putco for his faith in me and Phumzile Mnci, the station manager, for [trusting] in me,” Jaxa said.
“The listeners will have a lot of fun as I am a jack of all trades.”
She is best-known for her roles in Generations as Priscilla Mthembu, in Isidingo as Lorraine Dhlomo, and in Madam & Eve as Eve Sisulu.
Also, she has starred in a number of feature films including Oddball Hall, The Bird Can’t Fly, I Now Pronounce You Black and White, Beyond Return and Wedding.
Though she will present from Cape Town, Jaxa said it would be lovely to move to Port Elizabeth. But the station’s listeners will have to wait for May 1 to experience what she will bring to the BEE show.
BEE co-host Nozewu said they were pleased to have Jaxa. People had been asking them to include a female presenter to the show’s male- dominated lineup, he said.
“We were included in the [selection] of Tina Jaxa. She is experienced and has strong qualities. We did not want someone who was going to be intimidated by the way we do things,” he said.
Mnci said they valued listeners’ contributions and suggestions.
“These contributions are one of the main factors that has led to the changes we have implemented on the station. We want to extend a sincere thank you to all our loyal listeners,” Mnci said.
Jaxa will be introduced live on SABC3’s Expresso next month.
