Engines heated for classic Garden Route show

KNYSNA is set to host the annual charity Garden Route Classic Car Show next month.

The spectacular event will take place on Saturday May 4 from 9.30am to 4pm at the Knysna High School sports field located on Waterfront Drive, and promises to be a must-see for all petrolheads.

The show has become a magnet for enthusiasts, featuring a wide spectrum of classics originating from all over the world, including a display of some of the most famous marques: Porsche, Mercedes Benz, MG, Jaguar, Austin Healey, Morgan, Triumph, Lotus, Aston Martin, as well as golden oldies from the US and elsewhere.

The emphasis is on showing interesting cars and to pay tribute to these cars. It is all about bringing together people who share a passion for cars.

The Garden Route Motor Club has committed to a vision for its annual car show to emulate and become the “Pebble Beach” of South Africa.

For the first time this year, the organisers have formed a partnership with The House of Classic and Sports Cars to offer a trading platform for classic cars by auction, with some of the proceeds for the benefit of nominated charities.

The car show will feature a special display of great “collector cars” parked in a VIP area, the evolution of certain car marques, super cars and car clubs, to mention a few.

Negotiations for participation of car collectors are at an advanced stage.

The national motoring magazine, Classic & Performance Car Africa, will be sponsoring two Concourse d’Elegance trophies, for which all classic cars entered in the show will automatically qualify.

Judging will be based on the car that has the greatest appeal. The public will vote for one and the other will be selected by judges.

The event is also popular with the motor trade, which uses the opportunity to display their latest models and related products.

The show is considered to be a useful shop window, especially by those companies not having showrooms in Knysna.

Food stands and a bar service will be available, as well as entertainment for the kids. Entry is R20 for adults and R10 for children (free for under 10s). The funds raised will go to Hospice, Animal Welfare and E-Pap (children feeding scheme). For further information contact Peter Pretorius on 082-321-4724 or e-mail peterp@epweb.co.za
