WITH a diverse menu and a view to die for, if you are in the Plett, Crags or Keurboomsriver area, a restaurant that is a must for any diner is Enrico’s.
Situated on the beach at Keurboomstrand, Restaurante Enrico has an extensive deck which is perfect for sundowners (and dinner of course!) and an indoor dining area for those windy nights.
The menu is so diverse and each dish so tempting that it took us nearly an hour to decide what we wanted to sample so, if you are also inclined to dither, take the waiter’s advice and order the house speciality starter, the Bomba which is two thin slices of foccacia joined together and inflated to the point where it looks like one of those special birthday balloons.
At R33 you can have it served plain or, for an extra R2, with garlic and chilli.
But back to the menu. There are pizzas galore, all in the R80 price range, which is not bad considering they are big enough to share, and a wide array of pasta dishes including an unusual seafood offering with mussels, prawns, linefish and calamari which is also in the R80 price range.
Being by the sea, I finally settled on the baby sole at R94.50 while, from the diverse veal menu, my dinner partner settled on the Arrosto veal (R128.90).
Considering the size of the restaurant and how long we had dithered, the food was served with impressive speed and our choices were well justified.
There were three fresh and succulent baby soles served in a buttery sauce and accompanied by a huge serving of chips and freshly cooked vegetables. The soles, in all honesty, were the best I have ever tasted.
The same chips and veggies went with my partner’s veal which had been slowly roasted with bacon and served with a “very stunning” creamy sauce.
We ate our meals in perfect contentment having watched the sun setting over a pristine stretch of beach – in fact, we enjoyed our meals so much that we returned the next evening. This time the place was extremely full and the service less impressive but who needs to hurry over a holiday meal in a piece of heaven?
Bookings are not taken and the restaurant is closed for the whole of May. Website: www.enricorestaurant.co.za
