Where to learn a new language

LANGUAGE courses are available at many places in Nelson Mandela Bay, including:

Xhosa: R1850 for 18 lectures in conversational Xhosa at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s Second Avenue Campus in Summerstrand. Lectures are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 5.30pm.

French: For their next term which starts this month, Alliance Française will charge R1500 for 30 hours in 10 weeks for beginner French. Classes are held at 17 Mackay Street in Richmond Hill either from 9am or 5.30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Spanish: 10-week courses at Hablas Espanol cost R1500 for beginner classes in Spanish. Classes are held at 39 Buffelsfontein Road in Mount Pleasant on Saturdays from 8.30am, Mondays and Wednesdays from 6.30pm.

German: The Bay Language Institute offers nine- week courses in beginner German at a cost or R2190 for a 36-lesson course. Classes are held twice a week at the institute in 9th Avenue Summerstrand.

Arabic: NMMU offers a course in beginner conversational Arabic at a cost of R1900 for an 11-week course. The university also offers classes on how to read and write in Arabic at a cost of R1600 for a 10-week course. The beginner classes are held from 5.30pm on Tuesdays and the reading and writing classes are held on Wednesdays from 5.30pm at the university’s Second Avenue campus in Summerstrand.

Chinese: The Bay Language Institute offers lessons in Chinese on an individual basis at R220 per lesson. Each lesson is 50 minutes long and will be held in line with the individual’s schedule.
