‘Spud’ author at Bay book signing tonight

THE best-selling author of Spud, John Van de Ruit, will talk at a book signing of his work this evening (08/03/2013) at the Ron Belling Gallery in Park Drive, Port Elizabeth.

Van de Ruit is in the Eastern Cape to perform in a brand new comedy sketch show, The Rise of the Insanity League, but is better known as the creator of the hapless Spud Milton, a skinny boy whose humorous tales of KwaZulu-Natal boarding school life have entertained millions worldwide.

In fact, Van de Ruit is the fastest-selling South African author, breaking records for the series of novels which have been translated into Italian and Russian. He is now working on the screenplay for the third book with plans for the fourth and final title – where Spud is in his last year at school – and its transition to the big screen next year.

“The movies are flying the flag for Spud now,” he said in an interview in Port Elizabeth this week.
