DIETER Voigt has had to turn down his fair share of adoring female fans – including one who wanted him to sign her bra – but fortunately his heart now belongs to his biggest fans: his wife and daughter.
The hunky Pasella presenter and former Mr South Africa was in Port Elizabeth yesterday to give a motivational talk to 200 estate agents.
Voigt was a guest of university friend Jaco Rademeyer who runs a successful estate agency in Nelson Mandela Bay. The former teacher has also written a book, I Dare You, which he describes as like giving brotherly advice to a younger brother.
“In the book I talk about life skills and my Pasella ventures,” he said.
Voigt joined the Pasella team after winning the Mr South Africa title in 2007. He does voice-overs, presents and directs – which his background as a teacher prepared him for, he said.
It was while teaching that he met his wife, Idols season three contestant Martelize van Niekerk, and this also motivated him to join the industry.
“I also wanted to share the limelight so I entered the Men’s Health competition where the top five Idols would come to watch our show. I then went to enter Mr South Africa which opened many doors for me,” he said.
The two were married in 2011 and have since had a daughter, Mijean.
“She turned one last week and she is at the teething stage. I also babysit when my wife is performing. Oh, she also started walking,” he said.
Women no longer hit on him as much as they did before he was married, but Voigt recalled an incident – his most embarrassing – in which a woman came up to him in a Cape Town restaurant and asked him to sign her bra. “I refused,” he said.
Voigt is also a qualified personal trainer who started a boot camp last October. “After I heard South Africans were the third fattest in the world I knew that something had to be done. I train my clients three times a week and I also challenge them to get involved in weekend activities.”
