Magic, levitation and tricks of the mind with Larry Soffer

SOUTH Africa’s foremost magic man, mentalist and illusionist Larry Soffer, is at Hemingways Casino for three shows in January and February.

Soffer stunned local audiences with his special brand of magic when he performed at the casino in 2011. Now he’s back, this time at the brand new Venue@Hemingways, with a show directed by one of Cape Town’s top directors and producers and featuring the comical MC Ashley.

This show introduces another side to Soffer and includes a number of dazzling showstoppers such as Soffer levitating in mid-air as well as one of David Copperfield’s sleekest illusion, the floating rose.

Ccombining MC Ashley’s antics, the show is two hours of fast-paced entertainment, say the organisers.

MC Ashley, who recently performed in East London as the opening act for Emo Adams, is touted to be the most authentic Madiba impersonator in South Africa and will be showcasing a side to the great statesman that no one has ever dared to impersonate.

“Audiences can expect to be blown away by Soffer’s awe-inspiring repertoire of magic, levitation and tricks of the mind, while MC Ashley brings an element of fun and fast wit to create a unique and unforgettable show,” Hemingways marketing manager, Neville Austin says.

The shows take place on January 31 and February 1 and 2. Tickets cost R120 per person and are available through Computicket.

Doors open at 7pm, with Soffer taking to the stage at 7.30pm.

The Larry Soffer Show with MC Ashley is one in a long line up of events scheduled to take place at The Venue@Hemingways this year.

Built at a cost of R91-million as part of the grand-scale R420-million upgrade of the Hemingways Casino complex, The Venue@Hemingways is the first of its kind in East London, boasting state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment, and upmarket conference, banqueting and entertainment facilities.

During the recent festive season, the venue played host to a variety of shows including a Parlotones concert and a Steve Hofmeyr performance.
