(2) RISE OF THE GUARDIANS, with Alec Baldwin, Hugh Jackman and Isla Fisher. Directed by Peter Ramsey. (Boardwalk, Walmer Park, Bridge): Reviewed by Robbie Collin
FATHER Christmas, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and Jack Frost have all starred in dreadful films of their own. But Peter Ramsey’s computer-generated cartoon – which unites the foursome as a team of heroes battling the Boogeyman – must be the pinnacle of malign seasonal tat.
The Guardians themselves are a powerfully unlovely bunch – Santa, voiced by Alec Baldwin, is a tattooed Cossack – and the chase-intensive plot has blatantly been schemed with both eyes on the inevitable tie-in video game. Deplorable. – Telegraph
