Savour this choice Dahl classic soon

IT IS time for grandparents, parents and children to sit back, relax and enjoy that timeless Roald Dahl classic, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

The Rother Swain Drama Studio will present the firm favourite in the PE Opera House from tomorrow to September 15.

With thespian stalwart Reyn ffoulkes playing the coveted role of Willy Wonka there is a line-up of some 130 children and teenagers and so choreographer Jerry Fortuin and musical director Bronwyn Maree have certainly had their time cut out for them.

The production promises to be a colourful romp through the delightful world of Willy Wonka where chocolate rivers, everlasting gob-stoppers and Oompa-Loompas are par for the course.

With the youngest cast member being a pre-schooler, the “cute factor” will definitely abound and many are treading the boards for the first time.

They will be capably led by the older and award-winning actors of the group – Amy Annear, Candice Millar, Taryn Benade and Caitlin Wiggill. In the lead role of Charlie Bucket, Celso Fabbri, son of well-known funny man, Gino Fabbri, is proving himself to be a chip off the old block.

Charlie Bucket will also be played by Janelle Moore and Kyrah Lloyd, while the endearing character of Grandpa Joe will be played by Tim Collier, Sarah Rose and James van der Merwe.

As part of an outreach programme, children from the indigent areas of Helenvale, Missionvale and Walmer Township will also be brought to the show, and the cast have all been involved in creating a sweetie-pack for each child so they, too, can enjoy the delicious wonderland of Willy Wonka.

Booking is at Computicket.
