Hope grows at school

PORT Elizabeth’s Hope Clinic continued its distribution of school shoes to the Bethvale School this week.
The principal Mr Van Vuuren welcomed these items but said that the school and children also need shirts, blouses, skirts and trousers too.
He has implemented a feeding scheme at the school where he provides the needy with one hot meal per day and hopes the education department will provide these meals in the future –  at present he relies on a local church and the generosity of other parents.
A group of women working at the food scheme also help provide an after-school club for the children whose parents are away at work until 5pm, all without any remuneration.
Many of the classrooms are in need of repair and most windows cannot be opened for ventilation.
