A week of glitz for Skinnerbek

There was glitz and glam aplenty in Nelson Mandela Bay this past weekend, and your Skinnerbek is rather impressed that people do seem to be making a lot more effort these days when dressing up for shindigs.

Last Friday night, as we were minding my own business on the Stanley Street strip, my gang and I noticed that Buenos was filling up fast. The place was abuzz with patrons and, as usual, we saw some familiar faces chilling outside.

Among them was bubbly Algoa FM’s Kholiswa Boltina – and her BFFs.

She seems to be out and about a lot lately – it must be 40s fever.

The vibe is always jovial at Buenos, with the Bay’s creme de la creme hanging out with their Bae’s.

Of course, your gossip girl also spotted some of the city’s professional blessees on top form.

Names will be withheld for now, my peeps.

On Saturday morning, Nonala Productions hosted a women in media event at the Roof Garden Bar in Chapel Street.

Not even the weather could spoil this wonderful do.

The gals who attended did not disappoint in the fashion department.

Deputy Minister of Communications, Stella Ndabeni Abrahams, rocked a yellow dress with African print and matching doek. But chairperson of the Independent Communications Authority Nomvuyiso Batyi’s red leggings and matching doek were a no-no for me.

The dress she was wearing would have been beautiful without the leggings.

It was a very well-organised event – and a big up to organiser Nonala Tose, a producer at Umhlobo Wenene fm.

There was even more flair and fabulousness in store at Saturday night’s glam Mrs Africa fundraiser hosted by Noni Mbete, who is one of the finalists.

The Radisson Blu venue was filled with people who came dressed to the nines.

The lady of the moment arrived in a floor-length, sleeveless green gown. I tried to sneak a peek at Noni’s shoes, but they were covered by the dress.

Her hair and make-up were perfection, as always, and she seemed to be well-supported by family and close friends.

On the fashion flip side, Bongi Mafani’s dress apparently only arrived on the actual day of the event. I applaud you for being so patient, doll.

It took me two weeks to decide on my dress. The guys also looked sharp, and Theo Klaas sported a clever combination of African accessories, with tailored boat pants and slim-fit jacket.

The beaded longer-length necklace was a cool touch.

As soon as the event was over, I dived into something more comfy as those heels were killing me, hon.

Cubana was fun for a night-cap, but inevitably the cropped-top-and-wedges brigade arrived in numbers.

Just then I knew it was time for me to bounce out!
