Feast for the senses at Bridal Fair

Find everything you need for perfect wedding

THE Boardwalk Hotel – the venue for The Herald Boardwalk Bridal Fair later this month – is a Port Elizabeth fine dining hotspot and visitors to our wedding expo on May 28 and 29 can expect an enticing array of edible delights not only from the hotel but a range of other specialists.

This month Haute Cabrière wines will be paired with tapas-style menu dishes at Kiplings Brasserie at the hotel every Saturday at 1.30pm – including the weekend of the fair.

Boardwalk marketing coordinator Megan Capoto said the buffet area of Kiplings transforms into a tasting room with huge wine barrels for tables.

“A representative from the wine farm will talk guests through the different wines while a Boardwalk hotel chef talks about the food,” she said. The food and wine pairing costs R150.

On the exhibition floor visitors to the Jenni Gault International exhibition stand can enjoy wine of a more bubbly variety.

The world renowned jewellery designer has partnered with Van Loveren which will be showing its Papillon sparkling wines as well as an alcohol-free version.

The Cape estate also will be letting our visitors know about its new release of “Skinny Girl” white and red wine.

Van Loveren will be serving a glass of wine to 400 brides-to-be per day in a fun social media-linked promotion, so look out for the branded photo wall.

If you are looking for something a little more adventurous visit Shake and Strain at the fair, where trained bartenders are at your disposal.

If you find the fair’s 9am starting time a little early for a tipple, Urban Espress has gourmet coffee to start your day right.

A range of eats also will be available at the fair’s own cafe as well as the “sweet and stylish” lounge area.

This means you can expect savoury and sweet treats with halaal options for Islamic patrons.

The Pastryworks Leonie de Wet says that the specialist bakery is working on new flavours and a display that will fit the botanical theme.

As the list of wedding sweet treats becomes even broader incorporating everything from cakes to candy floss, Party Design has carnival themed rental items such as soft serves, slushies and popcorn machines.

Donna Mey-de Lange of Party Design says that this all adds to a fun wedding experience for the couple and their guests.

It will be offering a carnival themed spread at the fair.

The treats do not stop at the edible with musical acts ready to entertain. This includes Variations Quartet, a group which specialises in classical string numbers by composers such as Mozart, but which does not shy away from more contemporary music from The Beatles, Michael Buble and Taylor Swift.

Wedding performer and DJ Kristin Steyn will perform songs from her repertoire that includes everything from country to rock and will host a competition where one lucky couple can win her services at their wedding.
