Celebrate St Valentine’s Day with a Japanese twist this weekend and stand a chance to win crystal jewellery valued at more than R20 000 from Jenni Gault International.

he International Jewellery Tokyo Exhibition invited the celebrated Port Elizabeth designer to show her new range there last week and she has returned full of eastern inspiration. So much so that she is giving away jewellery in red to match the colours of the Japanese flag and tie in with Valentine’s Day.

“Japan is alive with colours, a veritable feast for the eyes of a designer, particularly a jewellery designer,” said Gault this week. “From the time you step off the plane you are enveloped in a world filled with a million shades, from their modern neon signs advertising every conceivable product, to the brightly hued kimonos worn by the more traditional women in the streets.

“It is a delight to the senses.” She soaked up the atmosphere of the Japanese capital in icy weather, and learnt about cultural traditions. She learnt to remain demure at all times during the trade fair, speak in hushed tones while negotiating a sale, and not be first to break away from a series of farewell bows.
