Bay tourism night out extravaganza

MY week of social shenanigans got off to a buzzing start late last week when Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism invited media folks to a "Phuza Thursday Nightlife Experience" around the Bay.

Being the party girl that I am, I could not say no to such an offer. Journos are a funny bunch – they were all very quick to point out that "what happens in 'Vegas' stays in 'Vegas' – only that should be 'Bay-gas'!

Our night kicked off at the Radisson Blu's Tabu Restaurant and after a couple of cocktails and expensive whisky we were whisked off to the Beer Yard, where we had some foreign toots.

Next up was the township – Mavela's tavern somewhere in Veeplaas. This is where the people started getting down, ek sê.

Tourism head honcho Mandlakazi Skefile was a darling as usual and even showed us a few moves. I also spotted Lunga Magxaka, of KwaLunga General Jazz, enjoying a glass of the good stuff with pals... that one is hard to miss in his orange jersey.

On Friday your gossip gal was invited to the Businesswomen's Association year-end luncheon at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium. I wasted no time getting my glammed-up self there – any excuse to mingle with Port Elizabeth's successful business girls.

I sneakily chose a table in a corner from which to espy any outfits gone wrong, only to be disappointed as they all looked super chic.

BLC Attorneys' Luzanne Shamley looked especially lovely in a long-sleeved grey chiffon mini dress and powder blue handbag; she has recently changed her hair colour to blonde – legal eagles clearly have style too.

After a delicious meal we hit the dance floor to the tune of  Lady Soul. And if you have ever been to a Michelle Brown event you will know it was time for the "Busstop" dance.

Of course, given my natural rhythm, I couldn't let anyone steal the show from me. No naming and shaming, but hay'sisi, some sistahs seriously need to loosen those stiff bones.

My next social stop was at an anti-crime music concert organised by Bay taverners on Sunday. Pity my invite got lost somewhere in the mail (or delayed by the Post Office strike?).

I decided to be like everyone else for a change by paying my own entry fee, only that turned out to be a wrong move as the venue was outdoors and the weather increasingly foul.

By the time MetroFM DJ Lulo Cafe took to the stage it was pouring. Heavy K and Professor were also there and as much as I love their music, I had no choice but to leave – who wants to dance in wet clothes?

Quite a few other people also gave up on their R70 because the rain was just too much. I heard all the artists went to KwaNgqoko in New Brighton afterwards but by that time all I wanted was the warmth of my bed.

Ciao, darlings, let's meet again next week for some hot goss!
