Screen for cancer

THE Cuppa for Cansa hostess Patricia Dollane Chambers Dlamini, UDDI chief executive officer, said 46.4% of households in the metro were headed by women, hence it was particularly important for family matriarchs to take care of their wellbeing.

"That is almost half of the population and if our health does not allow us to do what we need to do, then we need to know that there is hope and help," Dlamini said.

"We are the pillars of our society and we need healthy mamas, sisters and girl children – and we also need to have real conversations with them. Women support each other and we are here today to support each other."

Cansa's community mobiliser for fund development Palesa Mgoduka said cancer affected young and old, men and women.

"Please, friends, go for early screening – and think of our men, prostate and testicular cancer is on the increase. It used to be seen only in older men – this is a mistake as even young men get it today, sometimes due to their lifestyle," she said.

"We still have so many who do not know about the disease and many communities still think they have been bewitched."
