SA movie Hard to Get for UK fest

SOUTH African movie Hard to Get has been selected to screen at the prestigious London Film Festival next month.

Released two weeks ago to critical acclaim, the film, which is still showing at the Bridge in Port Elizabeth, is being embraced by the international community.

The London Film Festival is the UK's largest film event.

The film has an action-packed, romantic roller-coaster plot and, among other actors, features local Eastern Cape talent in the form of Thishiwe Ziqubu, who plays female lead character Skiets, and Pakamisa Zwedala, who plays Gumede, a sophisticated, wealthy and dangerous crime-lord.

Ziqubu studied at the former Port Elizabeth Technikon and Zwedala is originally from Mthatha.

Festival selectors said Hard to Get was "a compact, highly enjoyable and kinetic action thriller that unfurls at breakneck speed in downtown Johannesburg".

"With its elegant and atmospheric camerawork, Hard to Get draws us into South Africa's nefarious criminal fraternity with aplomb. Young director Zee Ntuli displays a solid mastery of the action genre, racing us from one fantastic set-piece to the next, while Thishiwe Ziqubu shines as Skiets and Pallance Dladla imbues TK (the other lead character) with the cool of a classic noir anti-hero."
