Mokka blends in savvy detail

TO match your favourite coffee-to-go there is a new lifestyle product to keep you moving in style. General Motors South Africa (GMSA) recently gave selected media a sneak peek of a newcomer to the South African compact SUV market: the Opel Mokka.

GMSA vehicle sales, service and marketing vice president Brian Olson said the Mokka would be available in SA from the second quarter of next year, fitted with the latest German-engineered equipment and specifications from the entry level up. The specific engine and model derivatives for the local market have not been announced by GMSA.

Olson said the Mokka is a premium but compact SUV and further described it as "self-confident, sporty and modern". Competitively priced, he said the Mokka would offer high seating position, extra space, versatility and an overall compact package with clever proportions. It will compete in the sub-compact SUV segment with the Hyundai iX35, Ford Ecosport and Volkswagen Tiguan.

Opel brand manager Christopher Cradock said the Mokka brings an exciting and engaging driving experience, coupled with an aggressive design and sporty stance. He said the Mokka is aimed at those who live urban lifestyles.

"More than 240000 Mokka orders have been placed in Europe – this is not only an exceptionally important factor in the growth of the Opel brand on a global level, but also proves that Mokka is a worthy contender in a segment which is experiencing exponential growth all over the world.

"With Mokka we expect to see a new group of savvy consumers gravitate towards the Opel brand, who seek a fashionable sub-compact SUV which is exciting to drive and offers the solid quality and precision of a German-engineered product," Cradock said.

Some unique features available to the European customers of the Mokka include the nifty Opel FlexFix bike carrier and orthopedic ergonomic sport seat. The FlexFix pulls out of the rear bumper, just like a drawer, to slide in and out as needed to conveniently transport bicycles. The ergonomic sport seat adjusts six ways with four-way electro-pneumatic lumbar support to suit all drivers' postures. - Cindy Preller
