NMMU to host woodwind studio concert

THE music department of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) is hosting a woodwind studio concert tomorrow.

This lunch-hour concert will feature woodwind ensembles, solo works and chamber music.

Students Ashton Cusens, Daniel McAll, Grant Snyman and Matthew Shone will feature as soloists, accompanied by Kobus Buys. They will perform works by Weber, Stamitz, Dunhill and Finzi.

The four students will also conduct a larger wind ensemble in works by Mozart, Faure and Daehn, among others.

The university's clarinet studio has achieved much acclaim this year with Snyman winning the tertiary section of the South African Society of Music Teachers competition and fellow-student Tiaan Uys being runner-up.

Uys also came third in the tertiary category of the National Music competition in Grahamstown in June. The concert is at the South Campus auditorium at 1pm and entry is free.
