LA FEMME is celebrating National Women's Month by inviting 90 readers to our exciting 2014 Heels and Wheels series of workshops, run in conjunction with Hi-Q, Atlas Security and VW Market Square, Uitenhage.

Diarise the evening of Monday August 11, Tuesday 12 or Wednesday 13 for an empowering event focusing on safety on the road, at home and a refreshing fashion demonstration.

"Due to the multiple roles that women play in society and our country's crime statistics, we are focusing on women's personal safety and the role of fashion," event co-organiser Lize Hayward, of Clear Communications, said.

This fun and informative programme will be offered at three venues: Hi-Q Algoa in Uitenhage on Monday August 11, Hi-Q Walmer Park on Tuesday August 12 and Hi-Q Greenacres on Wednesday August 13.

Each evening will feature:

  • Arrival, registration and welcome between 5 and 5.30pm;
  • A free 10-point vehicle safety check;
  • A tyre safety demonstration;
  • The importance of servicing your car;
  • Personal security and safety at home;
  • A "dress for success" demonstration;
  • Snacks and drinks during a tyre change demonstration.
Qualified image consultant Solette Rhodes – La Femme's style columnist – will give the fashion presentation.

"Understanding why it is important to dress for success and how to do this will enhance your self-confidence and career. I will share why this is so important and give the audience the tools to dress successfully," Rhodes said.

Hayward said the feel-good evenings would see valuable information shared "in a safe, women-friendly, non-threatening environment".

Atlas managing director Gary Schewitz applauded the organisers "for being so pro-active in empowering the women in the Metro".

"The sad reality is that we live in an increasingly violent society in which the fear of crime is ever-present. Personal safety has become an issue of importance for everyone, but especially for women," Schewitz said.

Atlas Security sales and promotions manager Bernadette Nel-Naude will address guests on the theme: "Safety for Women – Because we're worth it".

There will also be ample opportunity to network during the tyre change demonstration.
