Bring kids to come and collage at art museum

CHILDREN have the opportunity this holiday to explore the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum and discover more about its exciting collections and how it connects us to history, the present, nature and our communities.

They can also make something fantastic to take home while they're there, thanks to a series of creative holiday workshops on offer.

The theme for the workshops is "Collections Make Connections". All the workshops start at 9am and finish at 12pm.

The first workshop takes place today for children aged eight to 15. Next Wednesday and Thursday, there are workshops for children aged eight to 11 and on July 16 and 17 there are workshops for children aged 12 to 15.

All these workshops cost R30 per child.

There are also family workshops for parents who would like to be active in the workshop with their children. These will take place on July 11 and 18 for children aged three to seven. Cost is R40 for one parent and one child, or R50 for one parent and two children.

The art activity will be collage making with mixed media. A collage is a picture or design created by sticking flat elements to a flat surface. Materials can include paper scraps of all kinds, newspaper, string, cloth, magazine clippings, candy wrappers, playing cards, and postcards.

Please provide own lunch or snacks.
