'99% Xhosa Comedy' on way to East Cape

THE hit comedy show 99% Xhosa Comedy begins its two-city tour of the Eastern Cape in East London on June 13, followed by Nelson Mandela Bay on June 15.

The popular show will feature an experienced line-up of highly successful comedians such as Loyiso Madinga.

Having burst onto the comedy scene with a murderous set at AWEdnesday Comedy, Madinga set the stage alight when he won the Graça Comedy Showdown in 2012. This led to him performing at the Nando's Comedy Fest alongside international acts such as Mitch Fatel.

He has since appeared on Comedy Central's Live at Parker's for Tumi Morake's special, performed at David Kau's Blacks Only show, headlined for Ndumiso Lindi at Carnival City, opened for John Vlismas and Deep Fried, and featured in Monwabisi Grootboom's Durban Comedy Jam.

Not only is he the promo voice for Comedy Central, he has also been the face of the MetroFM Awards – two years running – with a character that he created.

Madinga also appeared in the MTV Base presenter search where his impersonations of international personalities earned him great reviews.

Madinga will share the stage with top and seasoned comedians such as Mdu Ntuli, Simphiwe Shembe, Siyanda Maphumulo.

True to its character, 99% Xhosa Comedy will always provide a platform for locally-based comedians in Anele Shube, Mbulelo Msongelwa, Tsepiso Nzayo and King Khotla. The show will be MC'd by Skhumba Hlophe whose style of comedy is influenced by everyday township life.

"We're coming to the Eastern Cape for the first time this year. Tickets for these shows will be selling very fast. We'd encourage anyone wishing to come to quickly make arrangements as soon as they possibly can in order to avoid disappointment," producer of the show Monwabisi Grootboom said.

The East London show at Hemingways Casino starts at 8pm on June 13 and the Port Elizabeth show at the Boardwalk Casino starts at 7pm on June 15.

Tickets are available at Shoprite/Checkers for R150.
