CELEBRITY hair stylist Nthato Mashishi wowed the fashion pack with his up-styles which showed off beautiful collar bones and flawless skin as much as the dresses they were created to match at South African Fashion Week recently.

"It is particularly exciting to see how the looks that Nthato, our South African brand stylist, launches each season lives on long after the immediate excitement of the ramp and the media hype, to actually become the looks that women adopt for many months thereafter," Unilever beauty PR manager Sphe Mjadu said.

Mashishi is brand ambassador for Afro hair care brand Motions South Africa, and has successfully established himself as one of the top hair and make-up stylists in South Africa over the past nine years.

As style director for Motions, he is in charge of conceptualising and developing the key hair looks that will best match and complement the mood of the respective fashion seasons.

The Sheer Glamour by Motions and TRESemmé show that annually opens the Summer Collections of SAFW is where he unveiled several new looks.

  • HIGH-VOLUME GLAM: Mashishi describes this glamorous style as "eccentric and bold".

  • HOLD-ALL BOB: This style was inspired by the red carpet trend towards a shorter, more structured mood for women who want the look without sacrificing their hair.
"For the bob to work, hair must be well-hydrated, bouncy and shiny," the guru advises.
  • SLEEK BRAIDED BUN: Inspired by the braids of Louis XIV and the 16th century French court, as well as contemporary South African plaiting, Mashishi calls his bun queen "a blend of historic precision and street-style joie de vivre".
Mashishi's work has been featured on the covers of glossy magazines such as Elle SA, True Love and Wanted and he has consulted to several cosmetic brands, as well as worked extensively in television consulting to shows such as Top Billing, Pop Stars and the Metro Awards.

His client list includes Lira, Nhlanhla Nciza, Terry Pheto, Ursula Chikane, Bonang Matheba, Bonnie Henna, Noni Gasa, Sonia Sedibe, Thandiswa Mazwai and Gerry Elsdon as well as several Miss SA winners such as Basetsana Kumalo, Joan Madibeng and Joanne Strauss and international celebrities Kelly Rowland, John Legend, Caprice and Iman.
