Dream comes true for ecstatic couple
AFTER winning the dream wedding at Slipperfields at The Herald Boardwalk Bridal Fair on Sunday, Shana Kramer and Lyle Wolfaardt can now buy a new Opel Astra OPC with the money they have been saving since they got engaged in January this year.
Winning the fair's biggest prize has relieved them of paying for their wedding. On the spot after the draw, Kramer said: "I can now spoil my fiancee by using our savings to buy an Opel OPC, which he really wants."
In turn, with his hands on his mouth a surprised Wolfaardt could only say, "wow! Thank you!"
At a packed finalé on Sunday in the Boardwalk International Convention Centre the couple won an all expenses-paid wedding valued at R225000, with up to 200 guests, at Slipperfields, the elegant wedding venue next to Lady Slipper, 20km outside Port Elizabeth.
Kramer, 24, a sales administrator at Mustek in Newton Park lives in Gelvandale and Wolfaardt, 26, who is an operator at Hutz Medical in Neave Industrial, is from Hillside.
Since the victorious night, the couple have had to review their initial wedding date, December 20, as it coincides with another wedding at the same venue.
"Unfortunately, Slipperfields will be hosting another wedding that day. We have informed the couple and will meet with them in a day or two days to first give them time for things to sink in, and then work out a suitable date," Slipperfields co-owner Jana Rademeyer said this week.
The prize also includes: a three course meal for all guests from Fat Cats Catering, decor from Party Design, a two-night stay at Views Boutique Hotel and Spa and a chauffeur drive from Tavcor Motorent.
Then there's a bridal package from Images 1, a deluxe package from My World Creations, Sphere Photographic's happily ever-after package, a hand-made wedding gown and brides-maid dresses from Gerhard Meiring Couture and Mums Fabrics.
Shana and Lyle also take home Swarovski crystal jewellery from Jenni Gault International, an antenuptial contract from BLC Attorneys, a designer wedding cake from House of Bakes, a customised wedding stationery voucher from Words with Wings and a year's subscription to The Herald and Weekend Post.
They said their submissions were made up of newspapers they had bought and some were collected from friends and family.
Pinching herself after the draw Kramer said: "I am so happy...Every bone in my body is literally shaking."
Wolfaardt quipped: "We left a few petrol stations in the city looking like The Herald office from all those piles of newspapers we bought and cut out entry forms from."
The high school sweethearts, who started dating at Chapman High School in 2006, have a four-year old daughter, Peyton.
Linda Harwood who organised the fair said: "It was quite a magnificent event and the number of entries was truly phenomenal."
