In mix with who's who and Mr Shakes's movie launch

IT WAS a vibe only the legendary DJ Mr Shakes could deliver at the DVD launch of Mr Shakes – The Passion to Live last Friday and Saturday.

Mr Shakes swaggered on to the stage at the Boardwalk amphitheatre in a shiny silver blazer, grey pants and black T-shirt.

With his slick footwork and round-top hat, he welcomed guests to the screening of the film by Shelley Barry with his version of R Kelly's I Believe I Can Fly, which got the crowd singing and swaying. The lovely Shelley kept it casual in jeans, smart top and takkies, echoing the generally casual outfits of the crowd.

After the screening Shakes again took the stage and kept the buzz going for hours.

Buffed, coiffed and dressed to impress, I minced to the Radisson Blu at the weekend to catch up with dear friends from the days when theatre shows were limited to the PE Opera House.

Lilly Slaptsilli and Keiron Legacy, aka Clive Allardyce and Martin van Staden, donned designer frocks and pranced around like the pros they are.

Model boss Gail Brown who was in seventh heaven as she had last seen the classy drag duo 15 years ago.

Radisson, thanks for a super evening but please get a satellite bar when you host events – nothings put knots in my feather boa more than having to queue.

Ironman South Africa, celebrated its 10-year anniversary with a glam do at the Boardwalk Hotel. The event was graced by former Miss South Africa Melinda Bam and current Miss South Africa finalist Ziphozakhe Zokufa, a local lass representing our city. Melinda wore blue and black leopard print and Zee a coral cocktail dress.

I caught up with David Palmer; eish, this brother dresses to impress. Pity his date gave me the evil eye when I went to say hello.

Skinnerbek checked out DJ Fistaz Mixwell of Hade Mabebeza at Cubana late last Friday and bumped into business chamber president Mandla Madwara, who calls himself the Bay's social mayor. I didn't know you were the type to dance to Fistaz.

Also there was Unathi Makanda, event organiser with the Rebecca Malope hairstyle – though actually I don't know what he does except that he is always around celebrities. Also spotted were Loyiso Dotwana, executive director of Iliso Consulting, and SABC's Zolani Moyo, apparently driving a flashy convertible these days.

I cringed seeing Khusta Mqhoboli in the same jacket he wore the whole of last winter. Hawu ndoda ... do you and that thing have separation anxiety? Speaking of, Bay TV's Naledi Boltina sent Skinnerbek a late-night whatsApp saying she's only worn her jumpsuit three times... - Skinnerbek
