The future of South Africa’s iconic Opel brand has been secured, with its former owner and distributor, General Motors on Wednesday announcing that long-standing automotive retail group Williams Hunt had now been appointed as the official, national distributor of the brand.
Opel recently bagged the coveted South African Car of The Year title when its Astra model scooped the top honours for 2017.
The future of the brand was thrust under the spotlight in March this year when General Motors sold the German brand to France’s PSA Group, which builds and owns the Peugeot and Citroen vehicle brands.
Earlier this year, Isuzu Motors announced its take-over of General Motors South Africa in Port Elizabeth.
