Department to up R300bn programme
The Department of Trade and Industry has embarked on anew strategy to promote green manufacturing.
The strategy is geared around the department’s Renewable Independent Power Producer Programme (Reippp) into which more than R300-billion has already been invested and which is now in its fourth phase.
The figures were provided by the department’s African industrial development chief director, Nigel Gwynne-Evans, who was at a manufacturing indaba in the Baylast week.
He said a key aspect of the new programme was that the bid evaluation process now “needs to include significantly higher localisation incentives for supplier development and localisation so that independent power producers start competing meaning fully around their contribution to industrial development”.
