Kelston adds Chinese giant BAIC to growing list of product offerings
Nelson Mandela Bay vehicle retailer the Kelston Motor Group is set to put new drive into Bay motoring after being awarded the region’s first Beijing Automobile International Corporation (BAIC)dealership franchise.
It will retail BAIC passenger cars far in advance of the Chinese automaker’s first locally produced vehicles coming off the assembly line at the Coega Industrial Development Zone.
Kelston – which has its headquarters in the Bay and operates 11 multi brand dealerships around the country– secured the franchise rights in the immediate wake of BAIC’s whirlwind entry into the South African market, which was first announced in April this year.
China’s fifth-largest state owned vehicle manufacturer, along with minority shareholder South Africa’s Industrial Development Corporation(IDC), last month officially launched the start of construction for an R11-billion vehicle assembly plant at the Coega IDZ.
