Continental eyes West Africa growth

TYRE manufacturer Continental Tyre is cementing its West African footprint with the launch of a new legal entity in Accra, Ghana, as a means to tap into the under-serviced tyre industry in the region.

Continental Tyre Sub-Saharan Africa managing director Shaun Uys said expansion into the West African markets was a key part of the company’s growth strategy.

“The tyre industry in Africa is generally under-serviced by the major manufacturers, and is dominated by cheap imports,” he said.

“We’re aiming to change this with the establishment of the new legal entity for Continental Tyre in Ghana, which will create the platform to expand our footprint.”

Truck tyre placement division general sales manager Johann Liebenberg said: “The establishment of Continental Tyre West Africa will enable us to increase our retail channels based on the successful model we use in South Africa.

“This includes formalising agreements with new partners to expand the ContiPartner and ContiPartner Express retail and fitment outlets.”
