Move to revive Nafcoc in Bay

Task team set up to restore stability

A REVIVAL of Nelson Mandela Bay’s troubled National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Nafcoc) started this week, with an interim structure set up to help restore order and stability within the organisation.

Nafcoc national treasurer Phumzile Ndendela met regional members on Wednesday, and a team was tasked with organising a regional structure within a month, before the organisation’s elective conference later this year.

Bay Nafcoc has been marred by factionalism and a lack of direction that has trickled down from the national and provincial structures which, members said, severely compromised the clout of organised black business in the region.

“If one has to build an economy, you have to start with the region they are in so that outside investors can see it as conducive,” Ndendela said.

“We found that Nelson Mandela Bay wanted to be part of the bigger, national economic playground, but were lacking clout because they were not organised.
