Strike-hit MTN names new CEO

The MTN Group has appointed Mteto Nyati as MTN SA CEO‚ effective from Monday.

Nyati will be faced with the task of ending an impasse between the company and the Communication Workers Union‚ whose members have been on strike for nearly two months‚ which has affected some of the company’s services.

The Mthatha-born Nyati joined MTN in October last year as the group’s chief enterprise officer. His previous experience includes Microsoft and IBM.

MTN Group president and CEO Sifiso Dabengwa said: “We believe the appointment of a leader of Nyati’s calibre and competencies will greatly enhance our efforts to strengthen the confidence of our customers and reinvigorate our people”.

The appointment follows the surprise departure of Ahmad Farroukh‚ who resigned last week. It was reported yesterday that Farroukh has been appointed the new chief executive of Etihad Etisalat (Mobily)‚ Saudi Arabia’s number two telecommunications operator. -RDM News Wire
