Dedisa plant offers specialised jobs

APPLICATIONS for skilled and specialist jobs at the Dedisa Peaking Power plant in the Coega Industrial Development Zone (IDZ) close today.

The Coega Development Corporation (CDC) said the vacancies were open for operations and facility management, mechanical and electrical engineering, and administrative positions. They close at 4pm today.

While more than 1 100 people were employed in constructing the power plant, the number of skilled operational jobs being advertised was significantly less, but not disclosed by the company yesterday.

The Dedisa plant will begin operating in the second half of the year.

It will comprise two open-cycle gas turbines able to produce 342MW, roughly half of Nelson Mandela Bay’s power requirement.

The plant was built to help prevent blackouts nationally and complement the metro’s power supply.

It is the largest construction project at the IDZ so far.

Dedisa Peaking Power chief executive Arnaud de Limburg has said previously that once operational, the plant would employ about 40 people.

CDC marketing and communications head Dr Ayanda Vilakazi said the advertised positions aimed to attract professional skills which were vital to contribute to the growth of the economy and increase skills transfer.

CDC recruitment and placement head Duncan Grenfell said the corporation had been tasked to assist with the recruitment and placement of workers.

He encouraged interested parties with the relevant qualifications and experience to apply for the positions.
