Continental expands research in India

In a massive investment outside of Europe, tyre producer Continental has invested ß12.4- million (R160-million) to expand its development and research facilities in India.

Headquartered in Germany and operating in 21 countries internationally, Continental is represented in Africa by its tyre manufacturing facility in Port Elizabeth, Continental Tyre South Africa (CTSA).

Continental AG is focused on expanding its Asia-Pacific footprint and investing in new technologies.

The investment is into the Indian development and research facility, Tech Centre India (TCI), established in 2009 in Bangalore.

TCI specialises in the twowheeler market and in customised products targeting Brics countries – Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

With the R160-million injection, TCI will be expanded by 13 000m² to house eight research and development laboratories.
