VW, CDC rated top employers

VOLKSWAGEN Group South Africa (VWSA) has been named the top employer in the automotive industry for the fourth year running.

In a survey conducted by the Top Employers Institute, 85 organisations, including VWSA, were measured on talent strategy, workforce planning, learning and development.

The companies were also rated on performance management, compensation and benefits, career and succession management, leadership development, and organisational culture.

VWSA managing director David Powels said the company was a process and results-driven organisation where people took on extraordinary challenges and succeeded.

"Our successes are due to our people, who excel at their work, treating each other with respect and working together as one team to achieve the common goal of building and selling our great range of products," he said.

"To be certified as a top employer in South Africa for the fourth consecutive year is confirmation of the company's continued efforts to provide our employees with the best employment conditions which foster a fast-paced, high-performance environment," Powels said.

VWSA human resources director Percy Smith said they were honoured to be named a top employer again.

Meanwhile, the Coega Development Corporation (CDC) was also certified as the top employer in the public sector by the institute for its exceptional employee offerings.

CDC human resources head Bongi Stofile called it a prestigious accolade.

"Organisations which receive the top employer certification demonstrate that they provide an outstanding employment environment.

"These companies nurture and develop talent throughout all levels of the organisation," Stofile said.

CDC head of marketing and communications Dr Ayanda Vilakazi said: "This recognition demonstrates that the CDC takes human capital as a key driver for business performance and continuous improvement."
