Two women join Coega corporation's board

TWO women have been appointed to the Coega Development Corporation's board of directors.

The appointment of Nelson Mandela Bay municipal economic development and tourism portfolio committee chairwoman Babalwa Lobishe and KwaZulu-Natal advocate Thandi Norman to the board was announced yesterday. Lobishe has risen quickly through the municipal ranks.

"Being a board member gives me [the] feeling that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is involved and [the] needs of the city will be represented," she said.

CDC marketing and communications head Ayanda Vilakazi said Lobishe and Norman, who both grew up in the Eastern Cape, were appointed to the board earlier this year but their appointments had only been made public yesterday.

"The CDC's board members have been selected for their professionalism, knowledge and in-depth understanding of the complexity of managing mega-projects like the Coega IDZ," he said.

Norman would lend her skills and legal experience to the board, Vilakazi said. Her preferred areas of practice included shipping, competition, constitutional and administrative law.

Vilakazi welcomed Lobishe's appointment, saying she was a leading example of a dynamic woman in a leadership role. – Business Reporter
