Bay leadership summit to present top business minds

THE upcoming Nelson Mandela Bay Leadership Summit hosts an exclusive line-up of significant business leaders who have shaped the leadership landscape in South Africa.

Among these are accomplished business leaders like Phuti Mahanyele, Piet Mouton, Brand Pretorius, Peter Vundla and Shirley Zinn.

Shanduka Group chief executive Phuti Mahanyele joined Shanduka in 2004 and also worked at the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) as the head of the Project Finance South Africa unit.

Mahanyele was with Fieldstone for seven years prior to joining DBSA and worked in the company's New York office.

PSG Financial Services Limited and PSG Group Ltd chief executive officer Piet Mouton has been active in the investment and financial services industry since 1999 with four years of United Kingdom banking experience.

He served as acting chief executive of Zeder Investments Ltd as well as managing director of Thembeka Capital Limited.

Author and retired chief executive of McCarthy Limited Brand Pretorius started his career at Toyota South Africa in March 1973. Following a number of management positions in research, planning, sales and marketing, he was appointed managing director of Toyota SA Marketing in 1988. Under his leadership Toyota became the leader in market share and customer satisfaction.

AMB Holdings Limited non-executive chairman Peter Vundla was a black-consciousness student activist at the University of Fort Hare and received a BA degree in political science and history from Unisa.

He has served on the boards including National Chemical Products, Sentrachem, Alcatel-Lucent, the SABC and Sanlam.

Prof Shirley Zinn is the former human resources director of Standard Bank South Africa, and deputy global head of human resources for the Standard Bank Group, and has since registered her own company – Shirley Zinn Consulting – that provides consulting and advisory services in human resources, transformation, leadership and education. She also worked at Nedbank.
