Tourist accommodation income up

TOTAL income for the tourist accommodation industry rose by 12.8% year on year (y/y) in nominal terms (current prices) in January, a Statistics South Africa survey shows.

The survey involves short-stay accommodation.

Income from accommodation increased by 15.8% y/y in January‚ the result of a 10% increase in the number of stay-unit nights sold and a 5.3% increase in the average income per stay-unit night sold. Stats SA describes a stay-unit as a unit of accommodation available to guests.

The types of accommodation that recorded the highest year-on-year growth in income were guest houses and guest farms‚ and other accommodation. – BDlive
