Machinery firm sets up shop in PE

PORT Elizabeth has been chosen as the base from which German-engineered agricultural equipment will be distributed to the rest of Africa.

Claas, the European manufacturer of agricultural equipment such as tractors, balers and harvesting machinery, yesterday officially opened its Wholegoods Warehouse in Greenbushes, which will be run in partnership with South African importer Kempston Agri.

Claas Group regional director for sub-Saharan Africa Steven van Kooten Niekerk said the warehouse was the first to be established not only in sub-Saharan Africa but on the continent as a whole.
