Absa extends funding for tourism college

TOURISM in the Eastern Cape has received a major cash injection from Absa.

The bank said yesterday it had invested R1.6-million in the South African College for Tourism (SACT) in Graaff-Reinet to further the careers of 90 women and 16 men in the hospitality and tourism industry.

Barclays Africa head of citizenship Gideon Serfontein said it was the 12th year that the bank had supported the college.

"We are proud to be able to contribute towards the development and growth of young women and men who will enter the tourism sector with confidence and create unique South African experiences for tourists, both local and international. This investment comes at the right time as the country celebrates Tourism Month," Serfontein said.

SACT executive director Andre Kilian said it was gratifying to know that Absa continued to consider the college a worthy recipient of its support. – Business Reporter
