Interest in mohair sale high

THERE was good interest shown at the first sale in Port Elizabeth of the 2014 winter mohair season yesterday.

Mohair SA spokeswoman Robyn Rutters said with 86092kg on offer, 98.6% of the offering was sold.

"This first winter offering consists traditionally of a very mixed offering and comparisons are difficult to make. The market opened on a very satisfactory level, with good competition from all the buying houses," Rutters said.

"The average market indicator closed on R170.03 per kg, with all sectors of the clip attracting good interest."

A highest price of R468 per kg was paid for a bale of plus average 25 micron winter kid mohair. Strong adults increased by 4.4% from the closing summer sale this year.

The second winter sale is scheduled for August 26.
