Continental wins supplier award

TWO Port Elizabeth automotive giants celebrated a partnership of “two in a row”.

Continental Tyre South Africa’s manufacturing plant in Port Elizabeth has been awarded the General Motors Supplier Quality Excellence Award for 2013 – for the second year in a row.

Produced at its factory in Port Elizabeth, CTSA supplies tyres to GMSA’s locally made vehicles at its Struandale plant a few kilometres away.

GMSA vice president of global purchasing and supply chain, John Astbury, said the award was given to specific suppliers and only the top-performing suppliers were eligible.

In this way GM recognises those suppliers who have demonstrated high levels of quality performance over the period of a year. The 2013 award covers the period from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013.

“Overall, GM is striving to move from good to great as a company and achieving this goal depends largely on the quality of our products,” Astbury said. – Business Reporter
