A PORT Elizabeth supplements company that sponsors the Southern Kings, EP Kings and Chevrolet Warriors has won two national awards.

NutriTech was the winner in the Whey Protein of the Year and Brand of the Year categories at the 2013 Chrome Annual Awards of Excellence last month.

NutriTech brand manager Christopher Walton said the awards were a massive achievement for the company. "We went up against some of the biggest and most established brands in the country and managed to walk away with top honours – all of this from an Eastern Cape company that is just two years old."

Walton said NutriTech was also the sponsor of other top individual athletes, including Africa's reigning CrossFit champion David Levey, SA Paralympic gold medalist Kevin Paul, open-water swimming champion Kyle Main and professional lifesaver Mandi Maritz.

"Quality is important to these top teams and athletes and they cannot risk being tested positive for any banned substances. Their trust in us is a major testament to our manufacturing capabilities and attention to detail," Walton said.

The awards were instituted by Chrome to recognise Africa's favourite and most trusted supplements brands and products. NutriTech was nominated in the majority of the categories and voting took place online.

NutriTech was started in 2011 by managing director Jaco Serfontein.
