INDUSTRIAL firm Air Products said this week it had seen benefits from its partnership with broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) company Reatile Gaz‚ with the two bringing a wider range of wares to the Eastern Cape.

Air Products is one of the companies trying to grow its presence in the Coega Industrial Development Zone.

Air Products is the largest tonnage supplier of industrial gases in South Africa.

It has a large focus on supplying its Eastern Cape customers directly‚ offering process gases including oxygen‚ nitrogen‚ argon and carbon dioxide.

The relationship with Reatile Gaz is meant to help communities by delivering gas products to outlying areas in the Eastern Cape.

“The coalition has guaranteed the consistent supply of liquefied petroleum gas to southern Africa‚ and specifically the Eastern Cape‚ falling in line with the Department of Energy’s objectives to expand the local liquid petroleum gas (LPG) market, while driving transformation of the industry‚” MD Mike Hellyar said.

Reatile Gaz has embarked on downstream infrastructure development in Gauteng and the Western Cape‚ with plans for further development in the Eastern Cape, aimed at empowering smaller black-owned firms in the gas industry.

“Air Products remains our anchor customer. Since our partnership with them, our company’s growth has benefited from their supplier development and empowerment strategy‚” Reatile Gaz chairman Simphiwe Mehlomakulu said.

“This growth‚ coupled with soaring local demand‚ has led to us purchasing Engen Petro- leum’s LPG business.

“This has given us significant added presence in the Reef‚ Western Cape and KwaZulu- Natal,” Mehlomakulu said.
