BEING appointed vice-president of the national Businesswomen’s Association (BWA) is a feather in the cap for public relations expert Michelle Brown.
Brown, owner of Brown’s PR in Port Elizabeth, was elected at the BWA’s annual meeting held yesterday at the Nedbank building in Johannesburg.
“I am absolutely blown away by the confidence shown in me by the board.
“It is even more exciting because Port Elizabeth is represented at national level,” said Brown, who is also the chairwoman of the Port Elizabeth branch of the BWA.
The AGM is a platform for BWA members to engage with the leadership and contribute to the discussions pertaining to the organisation. The newly elected president is Johannesburg- based businesswoman Liepollo Pheko.
“Liepollo is an absolutely fabulous woman. We have served [together] on the board for a year,” Brown said.
Brown, who is in her second year of a three-year term on the board, will serve a one-year term as vice-president.
“The board members are incredible. We also have a male member, Mthunzi Mdwaba, of Business Unity South Africa.”
Brown said the national BWA represented 11 branches in South Africa, and that the “Eastern Cape voice of BWA is very strong”.
“We have three Eastern Cape branches – Port Elizabeth, East London and Queenstown – and strongly support each other.”
